IVI-Metal Wall

This powerful wall structure, based on Nevima IVI-Metaltracks, is particularly well-suited as a sound-insulating dry lining wall. In the adapted form, the structure can also be used as a sound-proofing partition wall.

The wall is completely free-standing, and can be erected at any required distance interval. The insulation value depends on the cavity depth, which with this system can be determined on an individual basis.

The wall can be filled with a variety of sound absorbing materials (like glass or rock wool). The major manufacturers have materials which have been adapted to provide the ideal match for the IVI-Metalwall.

The IVI-Metalwall system as a complete system consists of:

  • Nevima IVI-Metaltracks 50, 75 or 100 mm
  • Nevima IVI-Resilient spacers
  • C-studs 50, 75 or 100 mm
  • Sound absorbing material
  • 2 x gypsum plasterboard, 12.5 mm x 600 mm
  • Nailable plugs with shims
  • Drywall screws
  • Permanently flexible sealant

Procedure

As a first step, the IVI-Metaltracks are secured to the floor, the ceiling, and the abutting walls. To do this, the drywall screws with the shims are used. The cavity depth (i.e. the distance between the rear of the cladding which is being applied and the surface of the existing wall) must be at least 65 mm.

Next, the C-studs are fitted into the metal strips, about every 600 mm. If the height of the dry lining wall is more than 2.6 metres (when using IVI-Metaltrack 50 mm), an IVI-Resilient spacer must be fitted at half the height of every support stud. The resilient spacers are secured to the wall by nailable plugs and shims. The support studs can then be connected to the spacers with C-stud elements cut to fit.

Once the glass wool or rock wool has been set in place, the two layers of gypsum plasterboard are screwed tightly into position. The boards must be offset in relation to one another, and must not come in contact with the existing structure.

Finally, all the seams are sealed with the permanently flexible sealant, such as acrylic sealant.

Cavity depth: To be determined, using C-stud in the appropriate length

The connection between the felt and the track is ensured by mechanical means.
